Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez asked Twitter owner Elon Musk for help and it appears he got what he wanted.

The Algeria international sent a light-hearted tweet on Monday to the billionaire requesting the return of his verified status on the social media platform.

Mahrez was seeking a blue Twitter verification tick on his bio

A blue verified tick on Twitter is provided to let users know that an account of public interest is authentic.

Mahrez tweeted: “Bro @ElonMusk give me my blue tick back” followed by three laughing emoji’s.

Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and one of the wealthiest men in the world, acquired Twitter in April in a deal thought to be worth a staggering $44 billion.

However, it was pointed out to Mahrez – a £60m signing in 2018 – that Musk is not responsible for handing out blue ticks by some of his followers.

Regardless, the story had a happy ending with Mahrez finally being granted his wish on Tuesday – the return of the blue tick.

Mahrez has bigger things on his mind, though, as he is in the midst of a pivotal moment in City’s season with two trophies still on the table as the season draws to its climax.

Pep Guardiola’s side sit one-point ahead of Liverpool with four games to play as they look to retain the Premier League title.

A City title win can put the brakes on Liverpool achieving an unprecedented quadruple with Jurgen Klopp’s men through to the FA Cup final.

The Reds are also waiting in the Champions League final and City will play them if they beat Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The Premier League side lead 4-3 from last week’s breathtaking first leg but the tie could have been beyond Real’s reach if Mahrez and co. had their shooting boots.

The former Leicester City man was subject of a raging reaction from manager Guardiola during game.

At 2-0 up and with Madrid on the ropes, Mahrez opted to drill his effort into the side netting rather than pass to the unmarked Phil Foden, much to the dismay of his coach.
