Jason Cundy didn’t hold back in his assessment of Ralf Rangnick, saying the decision to appoint him as Manchester United interim boss is ‘one of the worst the Premier League has ever seen.’

Rangnick’s men claimed a point against Chelsea but it was another painful night at Old Trafford for the Red Devils with the visitors outplaying them for large parts.

The build-up to the match was also overshadowed by reports that Rangnick was to be appointed manager of the Austrian national team.

The German refused to comment on the speculation but promised he would take on his consultancy role as was agreed when he was given the interim role.

But Cundy can’t believe Rangnick was put in the role in the first place, saying whoever made the decision should lose their job.

Cundy said on The Sports Bar: “That club has been mismanaged, the decision-making, to bring in Ralf Rangnick.

“Who thought replacing Ole with Rangnick was a good idea?

“Whoever made that call, it’s a sackable offence. One of the worst decisions the Premier League has ever seen.”

One positive from the evening was the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose fine effort got Man United the point moments after Marcos Alonso’s stunning goal put Chelsea ahead.

Ronaldo has 23 goals for Man United this term, and has actually netted eight of the team’s last nine goals.

A worrying sign indeed and Jamie O’Hara suggested the rest of the players have become dependant on the 37-year-old Portuguese star.

“I feel like a lot of the Manchester United players only look for Ronaldo,” O’Hara added.

Where would Man United be without Ronaldo?

“There were a couple of instances in the second half where Ronaldo makes a run and but a ball to Bruno Fernandes or Anthony Elanga was a better option but Ronaldo’s the guy they try to pass it to to make it happen but it’s the wrong ball.”
