Raptors fans will attempt to do their part to convince Kawhi Leonard to remain in Toronto following the 2018-19 NBA season. How? By starting a campaign, “Keep Kawhi in Toronto project,” with a stated goal “to highlight the incredible advantage that comes with being a megastar for Canada’s only team.”
As part of the effort, a website named “Kawhi or Die” was recently launched in which the following mission statement is set forth:
First and foremost, it’s an opportunity for us as fans to welcome Kawhi to our beautiful city, the country of Canada, and to the basketball team we are all so passionate about.
It’s also a way for us to collectively express our enthusiasm for our Raptors, the great city of Toronto, and the incredible country we live in called Canada. Or maybe you don’t live in Canada and just love the Raptors or think Kawhi in Toronto is a great fit.
The individual behind the “Kawhi or Die” site pledges that if 1-in-10 Canadians digitally sign the online form, big things will happen on the Leonard front.
“If we make enough noise,” the site reads, “I can pretty much guarantee it will come to Kawhi’s attention at some point!”
All that said, the assumption has long been that Leonard intends to head to L.A. to join the Lakers or the Clippers in free agency. And then there was a report shortly after Leonard was dealt by the Spurs to the Raptors that there’s no way he stays in Toronto due to his distaste for the local climate.
However, a new development week suggests Leonard reportedly will keep an open mind about potentially re-signing with the Raptors. So, “Kawhi or Die,” Canadians. Get to work.
